Technical milestones and Work Packages (WP)

Milestone 1: Optimized mixture formulation(s) and geometry achieved

  • WP1: identification and characterization of locally available soils and waste materials and preliminary processing (physio-chemical) grinding, sieving, washing, and activation conditions for biochar.

  • WP2: Developing 3D printable mix formulation with identified wastes/soils, carbonization of the mixes and assessing the amount of carbon sequestered, optimizing mix and carbonizing parameters to maximizing carbon sequestration, 3D printing of the mixes in various shapes, patterns, and geometries to optimize carbon sequestration. 

Milestone 2: Demonstration of the proposed technology in field applications

  • WP3: Compositional and microstructural characterization of 3D printed and carbonated cement and concrete structures from Milestone 1, evaluation of the mechanical performance of carbonated structures, the impact of carbonation and synthesis method on the durability performance, and structural testing of selected 3D printed wallettes after carbon sequestration

  • WP4: Test-bedding of the developed mix designs and geometries via large-scale 3D printing and carbonization of test structures (4.1) and on-field demonstrated of the carbonized composite

Milestone 3: International workshop and dissemination of project findings

  • WP5: Hosting international workshop and documentation of the results and filing of potential patent
